Butterflies
Beetles aren’t the only insect I find inspiring. The Butterflies are made with similar techniques as my Beetle beads, but use much less glass, creating a lightweight, ready-to-wear pendant. All of the Butterflies are stylized, not representative of particular species, allowing you to mix and match to create your own imaginary Butterfly variations!
To create these pieces, I first sculpt the base glass in the flame. Once each piece has annealed and cooled, I paint layers of vitreous enamel on the surface to give each Butterfly wing color and detail. Then, each piece is returned to the flame to “melt” the enamels onto the sculpted base.
